We are so pleased to say that at The Great Care Company we are no stranger to awards.
However, regardless of our previous achievements, it still makes us smile every time we are nominated for one. So, you can imagine how happy we are to be shortlisted for another four. What makes these nominations so special is that three of them are for our brilliant members of staff. We’re so glad to see members of The Great Care family get the recognition that they deserve for the exemplary service that they provide to the people they care for. The three staff awards are The Home Care Team Award, The Home Care Newcomer Award and The Home Carer Award. The other nomination that we have received is for our Employee Hours and Extra Mile Scheme with The Care Innovator Award.
Amy - Home Carer Award Finalist
Our first nominee is the wonderful Home Care Assistant Amy. Amy has consistently gone above and beyond in her role since she came on board with us.
It is no secret that the past two years have been challenging for the care sector. It’s been even harder for our clients. This is why they are so appreciative when home carers like Amy go the extra mile to care for them.
Throughout the past two years, Amy has been stopping by her client’s house for a cup of tea and a chat to ensure they are ok. Amy also home grows tomato plants and various flowers which she likes to gift to her clients. These kind gestures, mixed with Amy’s passion for developing herself and her team, are just a few of many reasons why she is a finalist for The Home Carer Award.

“I am shocked that someone nominated me, let alone being shortlisted as a finalist.
I always take great pride in my work and try to be the best I can be. It means so much that my work hasn't gone unnoticed but on the other hand, it's just me being me and doing what I love. Every day is a highlight for me, knowing you have made a positive impact on somebody's life.”

Georgia - The Care Newcomer Award Finalist
Our second nominee, Georgia, is a finalist for the Care Newcomer Award. Georgia has only been working in care for a short period of time and has already made a huge impact
We’re so glad that we gave her the opportunity to enter the fantastic industry of home care. Since joining us Georgia has gone the extra mile for every single one of her clients. She is consistently identifying and delivering additional care to those who need it as well as supplying them with home-baked treats.
However, it’s not just Georgia’s baking abilities that have earned her this nomination, it’s her passion for developing in her role. Throughout her time at The Great Care Company, Georgia has continuously taken on new tasks, challenges, and training courses to assist her growth as a carer.
We love it when staff members show initiative and work to become the best they can be in their roles. In addition to this, Georgia has become the Parkinson’s Champion in her team and uses her knowledge of the subject to help educate others. This includes contributing and helping develop some of the useful information you can find on our website. These are just a few of the examples of how Georgia constantly goes above and beyond and why she has been shortlisted.
York Office - Care Team Award Finalist
We have seen nothing but great things from our York office since its opening.
This office is the embodiment of what we strive to achieve at The Great Care Company. They constantly ensure their clients feel cared for and feel that they have the support they need. The office culture in York encourages its members to use their personal skills in their job roles. This culture of extra effort to bring joy to their clients is why the York office has been nominated for The Care Team Award.
There are so many examples of the York office's kindness that it is hard to pick a favorite. However, one of ours has to be when they came up with a creative solution to solve a challenge that they faced. One of their lovely clients had limited English. This made communication with our care team quite difficult. To solve this barrier the team purchased an electronic tablet for the client through the use of our Extra Mile Fund. This allowed them to use Google Translate to communicate their needs. Creating and maintaining strong communication helped to put the client's mind at ease and showed them just how cared for they really are.

“For us to be shortlisted is a true reflection on the care staff in York as they have gone above and beyond for our clients since our office opened and throughout this pandemic. We have been recognised for our unique person-centered approach to care and the fact we have helped combat social isolation by sending our team to spend extra time with the clients is truly rewarding in itself”

The Great Care Company - The Care Innovator Award Finalist
Our amazing staff members consistently go the extra mile for their clients, so we wanted to do the same for our staff. Therefore we created our Employee Hours Scheme. The scheme was rolled out in March 2020 to replace all staffs members' zero-hour contracts with fixed-hour ones. We thought that increased job security would help to alleviate financial stress and result in better mental health amongst our staff members.
With the use of this system, we can allocate extra recourses and offer additional support to our clients for free. The new scheme also allows us to offer additional training and development to our team and allocate more resources to help charities and our local communities.
Like with any new scheme, there is always room for improvement. This is why in February 2021 we added the Extra Mile Fund to the mix. The Extra Mile Fund gives staff members funding to support any planned activity. This includes paying for unique and wonderful gifts or purchasing specific items our lovely customers may need in a crisis. The improved scheme also gives staff more flexibility in their roles so that they can try different types of work that they may not do in their usual everyday role.
The scheme was a huge success and has resulted in so far:
