We’ve been reading about some of the oldest people in the world – have a look below!
Jeanne Calment:
The oldest human to have ever lived, Jeanne Calment was born in France in 1875 – she lived so long that she managed to outlive both her daughter and grandson by multiple decades. Calment did all sorts of things in her long life – she claims she sold coloured pencils to Vincent Van Gogh, and she also saw the Eiffel Tower being built. Jeanne attributed her many years to a diet rich in olive oil, and she took special care to remain calm.
Jiroemon Kimura:
Kimura became the oldest man to have ever lived in 2011. Born in Japan in 1897, Jiroemon Kimura reached a grand old age of 116 years old. He made a conscious effort to be active, waking up early every morning and reading the newspaper using a magnifying glass, and he claims that small portions of food, known as ‘hara hachi bu’ were the key to a long and healthy life. We don’t know if that’s entirely true or not but it’s hard to argue with a man who has lived through the reign of 4 Japanese Emperors and 61 Prime Ministers!
There are no rules on how to live longer, as there are so many different factors at play. However, the most important thing you can do is take care of yourself and live a healthy lifestyle.
