COPD Home Care

Lincolnshire & Yorkshire

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a condition that cannot be cured but can be managed to allow those with the condition to live an enjoyable life.

Once a person is diagnosed with COPD, it will often fall on relatives or loved ones to assist with care around the home and may lead to difficult questions being asked and the possibility of being put into a nursing home.

The Great Care Company is here to provide an alternative. Our amazing home carers understand COPD and take care of all the tasks around your home that you may require assistance with. This can give your loved ones some respite and ensure that everything from complicated treatments to basic tasks like cleaning is completed correctly.

Question: What is COPD?

COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is the term used to describe multiple lung conditions that cause difficulty with breathing. COPD can include emphysema (damaged air sacs within the lungs) and chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the airways) which tend to affect adults of middle age or older.

People often do not realise they have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease until it becomes quite progressive and makes normal activities difficult. It is estimated that 9 out of 10 cases of COPD are the long-term results of smoking though it can also be genetic or a result of sustained exposure to dangerous fumes or dust. An estimated 3 million people in the UK may have COPD with most cases going undiagnosed.

Typical symptoms of COPD:

  • Breathlessness - Especially during activities like climbing stairs or physical activity.
  • A long-term chesty cough that produces phlegm.
  • Re-occurring chest infections.
  • Wheezing whilst breathing
    Flare-ups when left untreated

Treatments for COPD:

Although the damage caused by COPD will always affect the lungs you can try giving up smoking, using prescribed inhalers and medicines or trying pulmonary rehabilitation, which is something our home carers can assist with.

We value and understand the importance of your freedom and independance.
Care can take a toll on your loved ones or expose them to things you would prefer them not to see. We're here to help with that.
Home care will not disrupt your daily routines. We work around you.
We respect your personal space, dignity & privacy,
Our team know that emotional support and mental health awareness are every bit as important as physical care.

Our service is geared up to be as unique as every client we care for.
We respect and encourage your independance.
Experienced care staff can often idenitify and take action if a condition escalates or changes. This will often make a difference to long term outlooks and provide a value second opinion when it is needed.
Home carers are there to support your loved ones as well as you. COPD always extends beyond the person diagnosed with the condtion.
Enjoy a better quality of life knowing that you're being taken care of by trained professionals and the peace of mind that comes with that.

Disadvantages

Our team can only care for people over the age of 18.
If a client has secondary conditions (such as severe learning disablities) then extra training may be required for our staff. This will always be at our own expense but will require additional time to prepare.
We care in accordance with your medical diagnosis. We cannot advise or assist with alternative therapies that may not be medically approved.
If situations or health complications escalate then in-home assistance may not be the most beneficial way of aiding with COPD. We'll honestly and openly advise if this becomes the case.
Your home may require modifications for mobility and safety. We are happy to advise on improvements that may make life easier but our carers do not conduct the updates themselves.
When specialised medical equipment is in use, it may require further training for care staff. This is something we can arrange.
