Joyce Raises £21,000 For Charity On Her 100th Birthday

Joyce Richardson has celebrated her 100th Birthday by taking on a challenge to complete 100 stand-ups for charity on her 100th Birthday and raise money for Herriot Homecare in the process.

Whilst this challenge may sound straightforward, it really isn’t. Joyce sadly lost most use of her legs after developing sepsis last year. As quoted in her recent article with the BBC, Joyce said:

“It may not seem much to most people but, believe you me, hauling myself up out of the chair is a huge struggle every time.”

About Joyce

Joyce, who served in the Women’s Land Army during World War Two (pictured), went on to say, “The challenge would have been easy for me, too, in those days!”.

Joyce is raising money for Herriot Homecare, which was established in 1992 by local people (in the Northallerton area) and supports people with life-limiting illnesses in the Hambleton and Richmondshire areas. The charity supported Joyce’s eldest son, Gill, until his death in October last year.

Joyce’s original target was £1,000, however, as of the time of writing, Joyce has raised over £21,000, and donations are still pouring in.

About Joyce’s Charity Challenge

Joyce is a client of The Great Care Company, a home care provider based in Yorkshire. The Great Care Company, which provides home care in Thirsk, home care in Easingwold, and home care in York, has been supporting Joyce in the run-up to the challenge.

James Fry, Managing Director of The Great Care Company, said:

We are very proud of Joyce. To take on such a challenge to mark her 100th Birthday is inspiring, and we are honored to support her. We know that the hospice, Herriot Homecare, is very close to Joyce’s heart so it is very fitting that she has done such a wonderful job in raising money for them whilst raising awareness of the wonderful work they do at the same time.

Joyce’s Birthday

Joyce successfully completed her challenge on her Birthday. At Joyce’s request, the team at The Great Care Company helped Joyce by moving her chair to the front of her home so that she could complete the challenge in front of her village (and fans). She is now very much a local celebrity.

Angela Gregory, Manager of The Great Care Company in Yorkshire, said;

Joyce completed the challenge and is finishing the day by celebrating her achievements in typical Yorkshire fashion… with a bit of cake… all in a day’s work for Joyce!”

Such an inspiration… many happy returns for to Joyce for her
