Our Kind Carer Bakes Our Client Geoff A Tasty Birthday Cake

This past year has been difficult for many people. COVID-19 has placed a heavy toll on everyone, with lockdowns keeping loved ones apart and isolating becoming the norm.

In the home care industry new rules, limits on contact, and social distancing guidelines have made our job more difficult than ever. We love what we do and develop deep bonds with the clients we come into contact with. We pride ourselves on the level of care we provide and love the level of support we can offer. COVID has changed many of the things we used to do but it hasn’t changed the way we go above and beyond for our clients.

Take Geoff, for example. . .

Geoff is one of our elderly clients. Lockdown had been hard on Geoff like it has been for so many other people, and like many, he has faced the challenges that isolating and following the rules bring. With the spectre of a birthday without his family on the horizon, one of our kind carers wanted to put a smile on his face.

Going Above And Beyond Is In Our DNA

We love to go the extra mile for our clients. The Great Care Company set up the “The Extra Mile” campaign with the aim of helping our clients in any way we can during these difficult times. With that in mind and Geoff’s birthday fast approaching, our team of kind carers decided we had to do something to make the big day memorable. But what could we do for Geoff to give him a birthday to remember?

The Birthday Cake

Whilst wracking our brains to find ways to celebrate Geoff’s birthday without breaking current COVID-19 rules, we came upon the idea of utilising some of our own skills to make the day a happy one. Baking and cake decorating had long been something, in particular, our kind carer Corrinia had a passion for and with the aid of a little flour, eggs, butter, and sugar (with a little ginger thrown in for good measure) she created a magnificent birthday cake just for Geoff.

Emblazoned with icing balloons and the words “Happy Birthday Geoff” the cake was a stunning gesture from our team to Geoff to show he wasn’t alone and that no matter what the situation, there are people out there who care for him.

The big day came and our Senior Carer Jackie presented Geoff with his cake. He was overjoyed by the gesture and with a little help from Geoff’s support bubble, the cake was demolished in no time at all. With Geoffs, daughter commenting
