What Is Diabetes?
It can affect any age, gender or race and this long-term condition will require the management of your lifestyle, diet, sugar intake and exercise.
It is caused because our bodies may not produce enough insulin or the insulin is not working as it should. Normally, our pancreas produces the hormone called insulin which allows glucose to enter cells from the bloodstream. This, in turn, causes glucose to build up in the bloodstream.
Common signs that a person may be diabetic (or hypoglycaemic) may include regular headaches, low appetite, changes in personality, a lack of balance, unusual aggression, dizziness or even loss of consciousness and difficulties with speech and motor function.
It is important that if you or a loved one are experiencing any of the above, you consult the NHS or your GP and get thorough testing and diagnosis.
If left untreated, diabetes can cause further complications such as strokes, heart disease, nerve damage and blindness. The sooner you recognise issues and look for medical support, the more easily the condition can be managed.
How Diabetes Home Carers Can Help
Sometimes we all need a little help. This may be the case if you’ve recently been diagnosed with diabetes. Perhaps you want some help around the home whilst you adjust. It may just be assistance with meal choices, a healthier diet or cooking and preparation or it could be with more complex things like monitoring your glucose levels and ensuring that medication is applied when you need it.
You should be able to enjoy life without complications and restrictions. Whether you are adjusting to diabetes and need short-term support or may have a loved one with diabetes as and as other complex medical conditions, it is important to know that we can help you. Our home care assistants are on-hand as and when you need them, providing physical assistance and emotional comfort when you need it the most.
Please know that you are not alone and home care can be a very affordable, reliable option. The Great Care Company will find a way to make your life better and provide staff that goes far beyond basic care; with the support that you need and the companionship that you deserve.
What Can Diabetes Home Care Include?
Personal Hygiene Care
Our care staff are well trained and understand that self-care can be a little embarrassing, especially if the duty is shared by loved ones. We’ll assist with personal hygiene whilst respecting your dignity and personal space.
Encouraging An Active Lifestyle
Physical activity is equally as important for your body as it is for your mind. Encouraging an active lifestyle will increase fitness, aid balance to prevent falls and benefit your mental health.
Glucose Levels & Medication
There may be numerous reasons that a person is unable to monitor their glucose levels or administer treatments. Our carers will help with every aspect to ensure you are safe and well looked after.
Planning Meals & Shopping
Lifestyle changes can be a great way of managing diabetes. We’ll assist with everything from meal plans and shopping to cooking. Healthy choices and a balanced diet can go a long way toward improving your overall health.
Managing Symptoms
It’s vitally important that diabetes symptoms are recognised and appropriate action is taken. Noticing short-term symptoms like balance or mood changes along with long-term issues like weight loss is something our carers are trained to do.
Cleaning Services & Laundry
If you are finding basic tasks like laundry or cleaning around the home to be challenging then we can assist with that! Whether it be tidying, dusting, washing clothes and dishes or the dreaded ironing, we’re here for you.
Pet Care
You may be concerned that your pets could use a little help too. We love your furry friends. Let us help take care of them with feeding, cleaning up their mess and even taking them for walkies.
Our Carers Are Companions
We pride ourselves on providing care staff that are not only exceptionally trained and experienced but also display the empathy we would expect for our own loved ones; matching each carer to those in their care.
