What Is Home Care?

As the name suggests, home care takes place in the home. Be it care provided by loved ones, family, friends, neighbours or professional caregivers, home care typically includes assistance with day-to-day tasks such as bathing, walking or cooking.

If the client’s care needs are more extensive or medically intensive, home care may not be able to meet them but home care providers can facilitate visits to hospitals, care agencies or therapists.

What Is Dementia Care?

Having dementia can drastically reduce a person’s ability to live independently, but the great news is that there is a variety of support available to help them. For the majority of people who require Dementia Care, a valuable form of help are carers coming into their homes to help out with practical, hands-on tasks, such as cleaning, cooking and shopping.

When it comes to mealtimes, some individuals suffering from dementia may stop recognising the food in front of them. This can result, in extreme cases, to malnutrition. Furthermore, as dementia progresses, a person’s concentration and coordination decreases and they need more help with dressing. Dementia Care helps those in need with an ethos of tact and sensitivity.

What is Domestic Care?

Domestic Care covers a number of day-to-day activities that clients may require help with around the home. Tasks such as loading/unloading the washing machine, changing the bin and replacing light bulbs are tasks that our carers would be glad to help with. Carers are trained to deal with several household tasks that can be completed to the client’s own preference and standard.

Some clients simply cannot manage these chores and for our older clients and delegating these tasks means that clients time and energy for more important things, like spending time with family!

What is End Of Life Care?

Hearing the news that you may be reaching the end of your life must be extremely difficult. Disbelief and shock are just some of the overwhelming emotions that can make it difficult to think and carers, who are specifically qualified to assist with End Of Life Care, will strive to ensure that the client is as comfortable as possible in addition to supporting the individual’s family.

Also known as palliative care, the people providing your care will ask you about your wishes and preferences, and take these into account as they work with you to plan your care.

What is Live-In Care?

Live-In Care involves a carer living in the client’s home and can be the perfect solution for those people who prefer to stay in the familiar surroundings of their own home. Live-In Care provides the assistance and support necessary to continue your chosen lifestyle in your own home and the live-in carer will provide the security of having someone living with you – avoiding the disruption and trauma of starting a different life in a different home.

What is Night Care?

Night Care provides support and assistance throughout the night to make sure that clients feel safe and secure. For individuals who suffer from progressive mental illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease, a bad sleep pattern can affect overall health which can create a need for further assistance.

Providing peace of mind for the client as well as their family, Night Care offers one-to-one reassurance for those who have lost confidence at night, those who require regular medication throughout the night and those with progressive conditions such as Dementia.

What is Personal Care?

Providing support to the person – the individual that requires care – Personal Care aims to promote the independence of clients, and it is imperative that this great person-centred service can be delivered the way that they choose. Personal Care is for those who need support with hygiene, continence, pharmaceutical assistance, food preparation and completing day-to-day activities, as well as those who need vital emotional and psychological support.

What is Respite Care?

Respite Care is a service that encompasses all care services, be it Personal Care, Social Care or Domestic Care. This service is designed to give an existing carer – be it family or friends – a break from their workload, giving them a chance to look after their own health and well-being for a change. Respite carers support clients to the same standard of care that they are accustomed to.

As well as giving the original carer a well-earned break, it gives the client an opportunity to socially interact with another friendly face. Carers are trained and qualified to deal with any situation and would be more than willing to undertake personal and domestic care as well as accompany the client to various activities, such as swimming, coffee mornings or bingo evenings.

What is Social Care?

Social Care provides companionship to clients, someone to reassure them that everything is safe and secure. Research, years of experience and common sense have identified that many people, especially in older age, become lonely or isolated when they have no family or friends living nearby. It is what Social Care tries to alleviate by offering a friendly face.

There we have it, an overview of care services offered by the main care providers that will hopefully give you more of an idea about care services and help you to make an informed decision. If you have any questions or wish to use The Great Care Company service, please get in touch!
